The grant will be used to fund the purchase of six new low-floor diesel buses for TransPark, as well as a new hybrid SUV to be used for the Night Owl service. The grant will be given through the Wyoming Department of Transportation. The new low-floor design on the diesel buses will improve loading time and accessibility on to the bus, according to a news release. The grant money will also be used to increase security at the bus garage, update dispatch hardware and software, as well as buy new equipment for the buses. Kasey Noble has worked for TransPark as a bus driver for almost two years. “The grant will help with much-needed equipment and better advertisement to educate people of the ease of our system, as well as improve the overall quality of the service,” Noble said. The university currently rents the buses that are being used for transportation services. The new buses should arrive in the UW fleet within the next eight months to a year. “We are very excited to receive this stimulus funding from the FTA and WYDOT because without it, we would not have the means to make such improvements in our services,” Paul Kunkel, manager of UW’s Transit and Parking Department, said in the news release. “I am looking forward to beginning the purchase process and replacing the older buses as soon as possible.” TransPark is UW’s transportation service. The service offers express and regular fixed route transportation, on-demand para-transit services for people with disabilities, on-call shuttle services anywhere on campus.
