As the University of Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team begins to wind down its season, it is coming out with strong hopes of taking a champion title. In the team’s recent games against Air Force and Boise State, the Cowgirls took victory with incredible leads on their home turf at the UniWyo Sports Complex. The two wins bumped their overall record to 15-8 and their Mountain West record to 3-5.
During Thursday’s game against the Lady Falcons, UW won with a final score of 3-0. With the conclusion of this match, Air Force’s record dropped to 8-13 overall and 2-5 in the MW conference. Senior Jody Purdy was one of the top players during the match. Purdy had a total of 11 kills during the game’s match, two service aces and two block assists, according to the Wyoming Athletics department.
Other remarkable players during Thursday’s game were juniors Reese Plante and Calli Miller. Plante hit her season best while Miller added to the Cowgirl’s performance with several kills and block assists.
The Cowgirls then proceeded to play the Boise State Broncos Saturday evening. Though the Broncos started out with an early lead of 5-2, the Cowgirls were not about to accept any defeat. With their win of 3-1, Boise’s record dropped to 11-12 overall and 3-5 in the MW conference.
Purdy succeeded in hitting another double-double record with 10 kills and 11 digs. This marked her 10th in the season and 54th in her career while at UW. Senior Camille Coffman also had a career high of 15 kills during Saturday’s game. Her achievement was one of several that helped the team obtain its victory. The Cowgirls Plante, Erin Kirby, Rachel Keyes and Becky Stewart also had exceptional performances during Saturday’s match as they all contributed to the Broncos’ defeat.
The Cowgirls are looking for more wins with their upcoming two-game road trips. They will be traveling Thursday to Nevada to play against the Wolf Pack and will travel again Saturday to play San Diego State. The team looks to continue its winning streak hopeful that its record will advance with two more wins in the approaching week.
