After 11 years of service, the original version of FarmVille will cease to exist after 31st December 2020. Zynga, the game’s developer and publisher, announced about shutting down one of its most popular games. The sad part is that so many users were unaware that it still existed. Now that it is officially leaving all platforms, fans are unhappy. Some of them feel like a part of their childhood is being taken away from them.
The main reason
Recently, Adobe announced that it will stop distributing and updating Flash Player for all web browsers. Thus, Facebook will stop supporting Flash games after 31st December 2020. As FarmVille was originally a Facebook-based game and was solely dependent on the Flash Player, the developers decided to shut it down following Adobe’s decision.
Further, the developers confirmed that in-app purchases will be available until 17th November 2020. After that, the payment system will shut down permanently. The game will not process any payments, and no refunds will be given. The game will remain playable until 31st December 2020, after which it will cease to exist.
History and Significance
FarmVille was first launched on Facebook in 2009. It was a farming simulation online game where players had to plow, plant, harvest and raise livestock. Players had the option to either play with friends or play individually. In a statement, Zynga said,
We are aware that many of you have been with us since the very beginning, helping to build an incredible global community of players over the years who have enjoyed this game just as much as we have. For that, we say thank you.
Back when Facebook was the only source of entertainment for all teenagers, FarmVille was very popular and loved by all. This news has deeply saddened the fans who took to Twitter to express their feelings.
Zynga’s advice and announcements for the future
Zynga has advised the players to utilize their remaining credits before the game shuts down. To help them with the same, the company has promised to introduce some fun in-game activities to make the final experience more enjoyable.
Further, Zynga has announced the release of FarmVille 2: Tropic Escape and FarmVille 2: Country Escape. They are available on the Zynga website. Moreover, FarmVille 3 will be available on mobile soon enough.
