Cadbury India is one of the most famous companies in the world. It deals in various products such as 5Star, Cadbury Celebrations, Cadbury Chocobix, dairy milk, Cadbury Cocoa, Morinville, Bournvita, and many more. However, Cadbury remains the first choice of various children when it comes to chocolate. Recently Cadbury has owned a factory in Himachal Pradesh. But The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed an FIR against Cadbury India Ltd. This FIR was filed against the company in the context of alleged irregularities and corruption in obtaining a license for its factory in Himachal Pradesh in 2009-2010. According to the sources, it was informed that various officials of the federal probe agency have conducted searches at residential and officials’ premises linked to the Cadbury India Ltd in Haryana as well as in Himachal Pradesh.
CBI inquiry claims
CBI has claimed that they have done an inquiry about the scenario. In this, they have found that Cadbury India Ltd has expanded its existing production units to avails the duty benefits. There were Nirmal Singh, Superintendent, and Jaspreet Kaur, Inspector, of Central Excise Department as accused in the case along with 10 others including Cadbury India Ltd. It was also found that according to the FIR the Anti Corruption Unit of CBI, Shimla Branch on the allegations that the company has paid bribes to the officials, they have misinterpreted the facts, also manipulated the records. All this was done by Cadbury in order to get benefits from excise duty and income tax.
Excise benefits to Cadbury
According to the sources the company has availed excise benefits with Central Excise officials. The amount was Rs 241 crore for its unit for manufacturing 5 Star and Gems in Himachal Pradesh. But in order to give clearance on their path the company has said that they have settled the potentially protracted litigation.
Cadbury is in trouble for the last decade
As currently, CBI is working to deals with Cadbury. But it seems the company is in trouble for the last decade. As apart from the anti-corruption agency, the company has been also under the radar of the state government’s local agency and India’s Central vigilance commission.
